IBA 2016 Milan Litigation Conference
The IBA Litigation Committee presented its 2nd Conference on Private International Law in Milan, Italy on November 17th and 18th, 2016. The Conference focused on the 2005 Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements. Even though the ratification process is still in its infancy, the recent ratification by Singapore (1 October 2016) has expanded the scope of the Convention’s application to Asia (until now only the EU and Mexico have ratified the convention). The event was remarkably well attended, indicating a very strong interest of litigators from across the globe and the ever-important need of their clients to have their judgments in cross border cases be subject to enforceability beyond just the borders of the EU. The Milan program featured top experts, whose presentation of a series of excellent lectures, followed by lively discussions with a broad base of participation and was capped off by enthusiastic and appreciative closing remarks of the Litigation Committee’s co-chair.
